Gemini Cooperation ships berth at Ningbo-Zhoushan Port

On the early morning of February 8, two container ships, the “Adams” and the “Frankfurt Express”, docked successively at the No.3 Berth 3 and the No.6 Berth of Meishan Port Area of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port. Later, a Maersk Campbell container ship docked at the No.7 Berth of the Meishan Port Area.

These three container ships belong to the “Gemini Cooperation” formed by Maersk and Hapag Lloyd (HPL), two shipping giants, in 2025. After completing the loading and unloading operations in Meishan Port Area, they will depart for such countries as the United States, Canada, Germany, and Poland.

Then what is the “Gemini Cooperation”? It is a cooperation agreement reached by Maersk and HPL, which was approved in 2024. According to the agreement plan, Maersk and HPL will start maritime cooperation on the east-west trade channel from February 2025 on. According to data from authoritative maritime consulting firms, Maersk currently operates over 720 ships, ranking second in the world in terms of total capacity, while HPL operates over 300 ships, ranking fifth in the world in terms of total capacity.

China-Europe Ship Express opens route to Wilhelmshaven

At around 1:30 pm on December 30, with the sound of the whistle, the “KAWA Ningbo” ship carrying goods from CATL and BYD batteries slowly left Ningbo-Zhoushan Port and headed towards Wilhelmshaven, Germany. This marks the successful maiden voyage of the “China-Europe Ship Express” from Ningbo-Zhoushan Port to Wilhelmshaven Port, and the birth of the “fastest ship route” from the Yangtze River Delta area of China to Europe.

Container throughput of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port rises by 12.7%

The production report shows that from October 1 to 7, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group completed a container throughput of 892,000 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 12.7%.

From October 1 to 7, several container ships were busy carrying out loading and unloading operations in the Chuanshan Port area of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port. During the National Day holiday, Beilun Third Container Terminal Co., Ltd. paid timely attention to the dynamic information of ships, scientifically allocated terminal operation resources, and customized the “one ship, one case, one plan” services, to improve operation efficiency and compress non-operation time. With high-quality services, it has promoted the growth of throughput, and a total of 76 ships were unloaded, achieving a container throughput of 229,000 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of over 20%.

Opening up does not stop

When the Malta cargo ship “Pace” loaded more than 2,000 tons of cargo from Yiwu set sail from Ningbo Zhoushan Port to the South American countries of Guyana and Suriname, Ningbo Zhoushan Port added a new direct route to South America on the global shipping map - after the opening of the new route, the shipping time was reduced from the original 100 days to about 45 days.

What does the addition of a new route mean for the port of Ningbo-Zhoushan, which has more than 300 container routes? The relevant person in charge of Ningbo Zhoushan Port said that the new route is connected to Yiwu, the world's largest small commodity market, and it is also the “sixth port area” of Ningbo Zhoushan Port; On the other hand, it is connected to the countries of the “Belt and Road” co-construction, and it is also an emerging market in South America; In the middle is the ambition of Ningbo Zhoushan Port to continue to build a strategic fulcrum of domestic circulation and a strategic hub of domestic and international dual circulation.

The flight time is getting shorter and shorter, the routes are increasing, and the open doors are opening wider and wider.
