On the early morning of February 8, two container ships, the “Adams” and the “Frankfurt Express”, docked successively at the No.3 Berth 3 and the No.6 Berth of Meishan Port Area of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port. Later, a Maersk Campbell container ship docked at the No.7 Berth of the Meishan Port Area.
These three container ships belong to the “Gemini Cooperation” formed by Maersk and Hapag Lloyd (HPL), two shipping giants, in 2025. After completing the loading and unloading operations in Meishan Port Area, they will depart for such countries as the United States, Canada, Germany, and Poland.
Then what is the “Gemini Cooperation”? It is a cooperation agreement reached by Maersk and HPL, which was approved in 2024. According to the agreement plan, Maersk and HPL will start maritime cooperation on the east-west trade channel from February 2025 on. According to data from authoritative maritime consulting firms, Maersk currently operates over 720 ships, ranking second in the world in terms of total capacity, while HPL operates over 300 ships, ranking fifth in the world in terms of total capacity.
