Ningbo Topping 800 billion yuan in GDP

Ningbo Municipal Government unveiled how Ningbo fared during the 12th five-year plan and what the city would aim to achieve in improving livelihood in 2016 and beyond in a press conference on January 26th.

2015 marked the end of the 12th five-year plan. In the same year, Ningbo registered 800 billion yuan in GDP. The city grew by 8.3% on average during the past five years. It fetched 200 billion yuan in fiscal revenue and contributed 100 billion yuan to the coffers of the central government. That made Ningbo the third largest contributor as a sub-provincial city. Revenue in the general public budgets topped 100 billion yuan, up 13.6% on average during the past five-year period. 200 million containers of TEU were handled by Ningbo—Zhoushan port, the fourth largest in the world. And Ningbo became the top actor in the world with 890 million tons of goods having been processed. It also ranked the third as a sub-provincial city in terms of foreign trade, which stood at over 100 billion US dollars for two straight years. Incomes for urban and rural residents hit 47,852 yuan and 26,469 yuan respectively, leading most cities in China.

In the next five years, Ningbo aims to grow by 7.5% on average, double economic aggregate, per capita GPD and incomes for urban and rural residents. The goals, once achieved, will put Ningbo in a strong position to emerge as an economic cluster of port, an innovation center for manufacturing, an exchange center for business cooperation and a logistics hub for shipping. These centers will be well recognized in the international arena.

2016 marks the beginning of the 13th five-year plan. Ningbo has arranged for 43 projects under 10 categories concerning livelihood.

Air-pollution-treatment-wise, Ningbo is set to upgrade coal-fired plants, penalize companies that discharge volatile organic emissions and phase out highly polluting fuel-powered furnaces.

In terms of improving living environment, Ningbo will make entrances to its scenic spots more pleasant to the eye and provide more green public spaces.

As part of efforts to raise water quality, the city is on route to treat sewage in rural areas, improve village landscape and clean up rivers.

When it comes to transportation, Line 1 underground will be fully operationable. And more parking spaces will be provided.

Ningbo is also aimed at refining social safety net by covering more people and offering more beds for elderly care.

What’s more, the municipal government will also step up efforts to boost employment and entrepreneurship by fostering entrepreneurship among university graduates, building a strong talent pool and developing e-commerce in rural regions.

To better deliver benefits from education, the authorities are set to build more plastic tracks and supporting inclusive kindergartens.

The city also seeks to offer better health care services by renewing commitment to provide contract-based tailor-made medical services and keep using register booking system in some public hospitals.

Cultural activities, rural cultural advancement initiatives, sports facilities construction among other projects will be put in place as a way to advance cultural and sports.

Safety-guaranteed markets, chain stores, reconstructing dilapidated houses will be carried out as Ningbo works to make the city more secure.
