Sanmen Bay Bridge to be open to traffic

On February 28, the Sanmen Bay Bridge and its linking project passed the preliminary design review organized by Transport Department. With an approximate length of 54.5 kilometers, the bridge will start construction this year, and is expected to be completed and open to traffic by the end of 2018.

According to the preliminary design, the Sanmen Bay Bridge starts from Daigang Port of Xiangshan County, linking the Xiangshan Port Bridge (already open), across Maoyang, Yuejingyang, Long Street of Ninghai County and Shepan island, and ends at Liu’ao of Sanmen County. The Sanmen Bay Bridge is about 11.8 kilometers long and the linking lines on the two sides are 42.7 kilometers long. All the roads are built according to the standard of freeway construction, with a designed speed of 100 kilometers per hour and a total estimated investment of 12.916 billion yuan.

It is learned from Ningbo High-grade Highway Construction Headquarters that the Sanmen Bay Bridge and the linking lines are formed by many bridges, including six exchange Toll Gates. The part from the starting point to the Minggang intersection, with a length of 43.8 kilometers, adopts the standard bi-directional four-lane roads, while the part from the Minggang intersection to the ending point adopts the standard bi-directional six-lane roads.

It is reported that with the completion of the Sanmen Bay Bridge, the downtown area of Ningbo will be more closely connected with the south of Ninghai County. With the construction of Xiangshan Port Bridge and its linking lines, Taizhou Bay Bridge and its linking lines and Leqing Bridge and its linking lines, the coastal expressway of Zhejiang Province has been shaped and the traffic pressure of the Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou Freeway greatly alleviated. In the meanwhile, the project will strengthen the connection between the coastal ports and that between the ports and the inner land. It will also greatly improve the transportation distribution capacity of the ports, optimize the coastal economic industries and promote the balanced development of the economy and society of the surrounding areas.
