Prices for Japanese goods to rise

It is learned from Ningbo Customs that the policy of price tax increase (from 5% to 8%) issued by the Japanese government in October 2013 will be put into operation from this April. According to some online shops from the cross-border e-commerce platform, the prices of the products imported from Japan will be increased accordingly.

"I used to buy milk power and diapers imported from Japan from the online shops. Now I have to buy more for future use as the prices will increase." said a Ms. Zhou, who was purchasing diapers for her one-year-old kid at home in a community in Ningbo National High-tech Industrial Development Zone.

The number of the shoppers fond of online maternal and child products like Ms. Zhou is on the rise. Statistics from Ningbo Cross-border (import business) E-commerce Platform show that since the launch of the online platform, over 20000 purchasers have registered and conducted cross-border purchases, mostly for daily necessities and maternal and child products.

According to Yin Haoran, a COO from an online shop of the platform, with the increase of the consumption tax in Japan, the shop will have to pay more for its new orders. An increase of 3% in consumption tax leads to an increase of 3% in product prices.
