Ningbo's toy export tops $100 million

Customs statistics show Ningbo has exported 7,448 batches of toys in the first quarter of 2014, worth $125.07 million yuan, an increase of 63.2 percent and 40.7 percent year on year. The figure for the first time exceeded $100 million.

Ningbo has been exporting toy products to over 170 countries and regions around the world. The toy export to Europe, Ningbo’s the major exporter, amounted to $ 78,586,000, taking 62.8 percent of total exports.

The faster growth is associated with the improvement in quality. Eight shipments of substandard toys were found in 2014, a decrease of nearly 30 percent over last year. Several reasons contribute to the quality improvement of toy product. First, many local manufacturers, especially baby stroller manufacturers, began to take quality as their top priority as the international safety standard was raised in 2011. Second, while developed countries in Europe and American are rising and modifying their quality standard of imported toys, African countries like Egypt and the United Arab Emirates as well as many Middle Eastern countries are also concerned about the quality of imported toys. Local toy makers had to improve their product quality in order to meet the international standards. Thirdly, local manufacturers take initiatives to seek opportunities to go global. While reassessing their risk management strategies, local manufacturers step up the safety, health, and environmental supervision to further expand the international market.
