Food prices remain stable despite cold weather

As Ningbo witnessed its first snow in 2014 last Sunday, food prices becomes a major public concern. Statistics released by major wholesalers and retailers show, the ongoing snow had little impact over the city's food supply.

According to a survey over Ningbo's Yonggui Food Market conducted at 15:00 last Sunday, most food prices remained unchanged and only some green vegetables and lotus root saw slight price increases. "The wholesale prices didn't rise this morning, but if the bad weather continues, the prices are very likely to go up," said a vegetable stall owner.

The city's vegetable wholesale market said that the snow last Sunday had no impact on the city's food supply so far. It sold 1,500 tons 120 categories of vegetables to local retailers last Sunday. The average wholesale price remains 2.1 yuan per kilogram.

In addition to vegetables, supply of seafood, pork and other non-staple food also remains adequate.
