The Port of Ningbo Realized Breakthroughs in Cargo Thruput and Container Thruput

The Port of Ningbo released the news on December 12 that the Port had realized a cargo thruput of 510 million tons for the year (up 8% year on year) and a container throughput of 20 million TEUs, up 12.1%, both setting records in the port history.
Since 2004, the Port of Ningbo has been pursuing the strategy of marketization, pluralism and internationalization and focusing on efficiency and quality, environmental protection and innovation. It has made great efforts in transformation and the port is now changing from a loading and unloading type into a logistic and trading port. As a result, the pot has made strides in increase of throughput and quality improvement. “Now the iron ore received by the port can supply a dozen of companies like the Hangzhou Steel. The crude oil transferred at the Port can supply over 20 million cars around the world for a whole year. “The 20 million TEUs, if connected, could be three times the girth of the earth”, said Jiang Wei, the spokesperson of the Port of Ningbo.
Since the beginning of this year, the Ningbo Port Group has seized the opportunity of developing the Maritime Silk Road in the 21st century since the beginning of this year and opened up new routes to ASIAN nations, South Asia and West Asia. So far, the Port of Ningbo has had 228 container lines, among which 113 are ocean-going lines.
In face of the new round of development of the Port Economic Rim, the Ningbo Port Group and the ports in the neighboring area have formed alliances or developed business outside the Port, making the port’s influence penetrate into the hinterland. In September 2014, the Ningbo Port Group and the Zhoushan Port Group signed a protocol of strategic cooperation and started an integrated development. Ningbo Port Group, the Wenzhou Port and the Zhapu Group started to cooperate as well. Through the management of feeder lines, the ports have achieved win-win results. So far, a business pattern with Ningbo-Zhoushan Port as the lead and Jiaxing, Taizhou and Wenzhou as the wings has been formed. Meanwhile, the Ningbo Port Group has deepened the cooperation with Shanghai, Nanjing, Taicang and Lianyungang. It has built bulk cargo terminals in Taicang and Nanjing, to forge the close economic rim. In addition, the Port Group has deepened the cooperation with Yingkou, Qingdao, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Beibuwan and dry ports in the middle and western areas.
