Mangosteen import soars

Recently, Ningbo Lichuang Trade Co. Ltd. declared at Ningbo Customs an order of 20.7 tons of mangosteen imported from Thailand, with a total value of US$41,000. The Customs opened a green passage to ensure that the mangosteen can be delivered to the fruit markets as soon as possible.
Mangosteen is popular among Ningbo citizens with its rich nutrition, high antioxidant function, and other benefits to health. “In the past few years, imports of fruit have grown quickly, due to the rapid growth of Ningbo citizens’ spending power. With the gradual increase of people’s consumption standard and improved diet habit, people now prefer those imported fruits with better quality and taste.” said a person in charge from Ningbo Lichuang Trade Co. Ltd. “Thanks to the beneficial policies of Ningbo Customs, we can import fruits directly to Ningbo, which can greatly reduce logistics costs and the cost of intermediaries. Plus, some fruits imported from such preferential origin areas as ASEAN countries can even enjoy zero-tariff privilege. ”
According to statistics from Ningbo Customs, in the first seven months of this year, Ningbo imported 82.2 tons of mangosteen (all directly from Thailand) with a total value of 1.112 million yuan, an increase of 10 times and 4.2 times respectively over the same period of last year.
