Painting witnesses the cultural exchanges between Ningbo and Bulgaria

On the morning of June 29th, “Paper Love – The Invitation Exhibition of Famous Paper Painting” is held at Ningbo Art Museum. A magnificent 15-meter long painting created by the famous painter Xu Zhong’ou is very conspicuous. It is one of the results of cultural exchanges between Ningbo and Bulgaria.

Xu Zhong’ou is a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and a famous printmaker. He is currently the vice president of the Chinese Print Academy of China Academy of Art and the dean of the Pan Tianshou School of Art and Design at Ningbo University. At the exhibition site, Xu held a petal fan and stood beside the long scroll to introduce his work to the audience. This painting depicts the ruins of the famous ancient city of Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria. According to Xu, in order to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Bulgaria, from April 30 to May 9, he and five other Chinese artists were invited to Bulgaria to have art exchanges with seven Bulgarian artists.

Xu said that when he visited the ruins of the ancient city of Veliko Tarnovo, he learned the history of the site in detail, knew the glory of the Bulgarian people, and understood the suffering they experienced during the invasion of foreign enemies. At that time, the idea of creation occurred to him. After returning to China, he spent more than 10 days reproducing the ancient city site on paper
