SHANGRI-LA NINGBO CELEBRATES THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF SHANGRI-LA HOSPITALITY IN CHINA

Ningbo, China, 21 November 2014 - Embracing Ningbo with our heartfelt hospitality, Shangri-La hotel Ningbo hosted an Appreciation Dinner on 21st November 2014 to celebrate Shangri-La 30 years of service excellence and to express appreciation to our valued guests’ generous support during the past 5 years.  

Shangri-la Hotel, Hangzhou’s November 22 anniversary marks 30 years of Shangri-La hospitality in China.For three decades, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has been at the forefront of the hospitality industry in mainland China. Nearly half of Shangri-La’s China hotels were the first international five-star hotel to open in their city. Shangri-La has been a trailblazer, bringing tourism and employment opportunities and a commitment to community wherever it has opened hotels. Over the years as the group has grown its collection of China hotels from one to 41, Shangri-La has become the most recognised and respected international luxury hotel brand in the country. It is the Asian tradition of warmth and hospitality – expressed by Shangri-La through its philosophy of “embracing a stranger as one’s own” –that distinguishes Shangri-La’s hospitality.

 

This year, we also opened several new Shangri-La hotels, which provides our guests with more opportunities to experience our renowned Shangri-La’s Hospitality from the heart,” said Mr. Richard H’ng, the General Manager of Shangri-La Ningbo. “This year, we also launched a new brand called Hotel Jen, for those of our guests who want to experience a whole new funky concept of hospitality, do check us out”.

At the dinner, Mr. H’ng proposed a toast for Shangri-La anniversary with Beaujolais Nouveau, a fruity young wine from France. Every year on the third Thursday of November, customers worldwide eagerly await the first bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau as

an indicator of the quality of the harvest and the year’s new vintage. In conjunction with 30 years of Shangri-La hospitality in China-a harvest year for Shangri-La brand as well, Shangri-La Ningbo cooperated with the 4S shops of Mercedes-Benz with a SMART motorcade picking up the new Beaujolais Nouveau wine from the airport to the 30th Anniversary dinner at Shangri-La Ningbo.  Beaujolais Nouveau drew the guests together in an explosion of colour and passion, to enjoy the moment of meeting their old friends and to share the pleasure from Shangri-La’s heart warming family.

Besides, Mr. H’ng also introduced Chef Lai, a Master Chef from Hong Kong with over 30 years experience of making authentic Cantonese cuisine, to the guests. Shangri-la brand found Hong Kong-based Shangri-La International Hotel Management Ltd in 1982. To mark the 30th Anniversary, a momentous occasion to remember, Shangri-La Ningbo served guests with 70’s to 80’s Hong Kong-style Cantonese food at the dinner.

Hong Kong cuisine is mainly influenced by Cantonese cuisine, while, the rising prosperity from the 70’s had given birth to increasing demand for quality dining. The Cantonese cuisine in Hong Kong had by then surpassed that of Guangzhou and many of the Hong Kong chefs started to bring out the best of fine dining specialties to all over the world.

Master Chef Lai is one of the chefs grew up from 70’s to 80’s Hong Kong. His 30th Anniversary signature feast featured highlights such as Crispy Prawns with Avocado, Braised Scallops with Crab Roe & Egg White and Fried Oyster Sauce & Fresh Abalone Cod Fish Balls, which will be also available at Shang Palace, the Chinese Restaurant of Shangri-La Ningbo from 22nd Nov, 2014 with great prices. There were also wonderful 70’s to 80’s Hong Kong dance performances and live band-Diane & Vladi back to the hotel by popular demand creating a truly exclusive and fascinating night.

After the dinner, each guest received a personalized 30th Anniversary Spa Bathrobe as a gift from Ms. Rose Zhao, the Director of Sales & Marketing of Shangri-La Ningbo, the soft touch would always keep our guests warm in winter.
