Haishu District Initiates First Online Volunteer Office for Protecting Consumers’ Rights

“Haishu District Volunteers for Protecting Consumers’ Rights” forum launched officially in Dongfang bbs“community column”on 14th , March. By posting requests or photos, consumers are able to get help from professionals. This is the first online volunteer office to protect consumers’ rights which adds an extra convenient and open channel for consumers in Haishu district.
    “The office is backed up by online senior lawyers with offline support from Haishu district Consumer Protection Commission and Haishu district People’s Court. It consists of groups such as post-sale liaisons from famous enterprises, folk volunteers and so on.”, introduced Di Shubo, Director of Haishu district Consumer Protection Commission. The office will conduct online mediation, to promote knowledge of protecting consumers’ rights once it gets online. What’s more, for cases that happen in Haishu district, the office would help to build a bridge for communications between consumers and sellers which will realize online and offline protection for consumers.


    “Haishu District Volunteers for Protecting Consumers’ Rights” forum has listed 8 regulations and uploaded 10 typical cases for protecting consumers’ rights on its home page, among which some have got views as high as 2000 times and nearly a hundred followers. “When consumers encounter disputes in shops in Haishu district, they could upload photos and a brief explanation of the case on the forum. Our volunteer lawyers would respond within 48 hours after discussions.”, said Ji Sitao, the volunteer lawyer. Haishu district Consumer Protection Commission  would follow up offline at the same time to urge sellers to respond in time. staff from the court would give suggestions about legal liability based on evidence offered by both sides.
     Di Shubo also mentioned that though“Haishu District Volunteers for Protecting Consumers’ Rights” is a semi-official and voluntary organization, it has regular office hours for each member. Just as Di has said,“Each volunteer has regular online service time and stationary service content. He can provide services in real time so long as he has got his phone.”
    Except online services to protect consumers’ rights, another highlight of the forum is service on mobile terminal. Haishu district Consumer Protection Commission has opened an special column for rights protection on the WeChat official account“Dongfang Hotline.”
