Ningbo's trade volume with EU up slightly in Jan-April, 2012

The European Union is still the largest trade partner of Ningbo even though some European countries are facing a sovereign debt crisis.

According to Ningbo Customs, the trade volume in the first four months of 2012 between Ningbo and the EU reached US$6.21 billion, with US$1.29 billion imports, up 22.6% year on year, and US$4.92 billion exports, down slightly year on year.

During this period, the trade volume between private enterprises in Ningbo and the EU reached US$3.59 billion, up 6.2% year on year, and accounting for 57.8% of total trade volume to the EU.

The figures include US$730 million imports, up 35.6%, and US$2.86 billion exports, up 0.6% year on year.

The main imports from the EU were scrap metals and mechanical and electrical products, amongst which scrap metals reached US$530 million, and mechanical and electrical products hit US$340 million.

Meanwhile, exports to the EU were mainly labour-intensive products, including US$820 million textiles, US$270 million lamps and lanterns, US$240 million appliances, and US$200 million furniture.
