Hitachi Metals Enters Into New Patent License Agreements with Ningbo Yunsheng Co., Ltd. for Hitachi Metals’s Sintered Rare Earth Magnet Patents

Tokyo, Japan, May 2th, 2013–Hitachi Metals, Ltd. (TOKYO : 5486) (ISIN : JP3786200000)

announced today that Ningbo Yunsheng Co., Ltd. (Ningbo Yunsheng) recently entered into a

new patent license for Hitachi Metals’s sintered rare earth magnet patents.

Ningbo Yunsheng, an existing licensee of Hitachi Metals’s basic patent covering rare earth magnet

compounds with a tetragonal crystal structure (U.S. Patent No. 5,645,651), has entered into a new

patent license to Hitachi Metals’s sintered rare earth magnet patent portfolio, in addition to Beijing

Zhong Ke San Huan Hi-Tech Co. and Thinova Magnet Co., Ltd., which were already announced on

March 13th, 2013, and Advanced Technology & Materials Co., Ltd. and Beijing Jingci Magnet Co.,

which were already announced on March 29th, 2013. Recognizing that Hitachi Metals’s patent

portfolio includes numerous other patents important for the safe, efficient, commercial manufacture of

sintered rare earth magnets, Ningbo Yunsheng has agreed to enter into the new patent license to cover

additional sintered rare earth magnet patents. Hitachi Metals has completed the negotiations in new

patent licenses with all Chinese manufacturers which have been licensed and is in negotiations with

Europe-based sintered rare earth magnet manufacturers.
