Ningbo Port to rank among top 5 for containers

The linking project of Hangzhou Bay Bridge and Hangzhou-Ningbo Freeway has been started recently. Meanwhile, the first customized shuttle bus line has been put into use. In the first half of 2014, the transport department focused on the major projects while also paying attention to people’s livelihood services. While promoting development through effective investments, it has also guaranteed the improvement of people’s livelihood.
The year of 2014 is the first year of the 3-year plan for transport construction, and the first half of the year witnessed the completion of a fixed asset investment of 10.91 billion yuan, including 8.38 billion yuan for infrastructure construction. In the second half, Ningbo will continue to advance with the preparatory jobs of such major transport projects as the Sanmen Bay Bridge and its linking lines, the first phase of the Ningbo section of the complex line of the Hangzhou-Ningbo Freeway, and the Shipu linking line of the coastal freeway.
Ningbo Port realized a turn-up of transport production against the complicated international shipping situation and fierce market competition. In the first half of the year, Ningbo Port completed a container throughput of 265 million tones, up by 9.5% over the same period of the last year, ranking No.2 in all domestic ports (surpassing Tianjin Port compared with the ranking of last year). To continue the trend, Ningbo Port has set up its annual target. According to Xu Huajiang, President of Ningbo Port Co. Ltd., the port will make efforts to realize a total throughput of 500 million tones, including 18.2 million TEUs of container throughput, up by 8.5%, to achieve the aim of ranking among top 5 in the world in terms of container transport.
With the opening of the Rail Transit No.1, Ningbo has basically completed its four-dimensional public transport system. In the first half of the year, it witnessed the passenger transport of 345 million people, a daily average of 1.9 million people. “We will endeavor to complete the work in construction, operation, management and services in public traffic to ensure an increase 3 percentage points in the transit share rate by the end of the year.” said a person in charge from Ningbo Transportation Safety Commission.
