Farmers receive certificates

After three days of intensive training and an examination, over 120 farmers involved in the fields of planting, breeding and marketing from Yuyao County received the certificates for the new-type professional farmer training, and before long they will get the agriculture agent qualification certificates from the provincial Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. So far, about 1000 farmers in Ningbo have passed the examination and obtained the related certificates.
"It’s the first time in the history of Yuyao County to witness the issuing of such kind of new-type farmer certificate." said Zheng Guichun, Vice-mayor of Yuyao County, at the graduation ceremony of the first session of new-type farmer training program. With its arrival, the word "farmer" has transformed from an "identity" to a "profession".
For this session, it is reported that the number of applicants almost doubled the plan, "which reflects the thirst for knowledge of the new-generation farmers." said a related person in charge of the training organization from Yuyao Supply and Marketing Cooperative. It is planned that by 2016, there will be 800 trained ranchers and 3000 trained professional farmers in Yuyao County, and the large-scale management will account for over 70% of the agricultural production.
The agricultural transformation and upgrading demand a large number of new-type professional farmers with skills. According to Song Zhaoxiang, Director of the Technology and Education Department of Ningbo Municipal Agricultural Bureau, the new-type professional farmers refer to those modern agricultural insiders with agricultural production as their occupation, with high professional skills, and getting income (at a certain level) mainly from agricultural production. They fall into three categories, that is, producing and managing farmers, professionally skilled farmers and social service-oriented farmers. As one of the ten provincial pilots for new-type farmer training, Yinzhou District has now over 500 farmers who have passed the examination since September 2014 when the first batch of 40 people received the certificates of new-type professional farmer.
Currently, governments at all levels are preparing to make policies to provide supports to the farmers with certificate in terms of one-time grants, small loans and land circulation. According to the evaluation from the agricultural departments, over 30,000 farmers in Ningbo can be included in the new-type professional farmer training program. According to Song Zhaoxiang, from 2015 on, Ningbo will start the training work on an overall basis.
