Total social retail sales reaching 58.49 billion in the first quarter

According to Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Trade, in the first quarter of 2013, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 58.49 billion yuan, increased by 11.8% year on year, a slight decline against the same period in 2012 (14.4%).
Owing to the central government's policy in control of the "three public consumptions", in the first quarter of this year, the catering business in Ningbo saw a general recession, with the turnover increased by 9.9% year on year. The retail sales increased by 8.4 % on average and the whole sales increased by 20.5%% year on year.
The quarter of a year is the rush season for the market. The sales of household necessities, jewelry and decorative utensils witnessed a seasonal increase. The sales of clothes and knitwear increased by 23.7% year on year. Thanks to the global downward of gold, the first quarter saw a rise in the purchase of gold bars and jewelry, which resulted in an increase of 29.4% year on year. Before the spring festival, there appeared an increase of the sales of house decorative materials. In the first quarter of this year, the sales of furniture increased by 273.5% year on year, and that of the building materials and house decorative materials up by 54.3% year on year.
The market of automobiles and household appliances is still in the slump. In the first quarter of this year, the sales of household appliance and video products increased by 11.2% year on year. And the year on year increase of automobiles was only 1.7%
