Ningbo Movie & TV Zone gets nod

According a planning meeting held last Thursday, Ningbo plans to build a Movie & TV Zone in Xiangshan, which incorporates movie and TV culture and tourism.

With its unique functionality and charms, Xiangshan as a movie shooting base dates back to 1930s. In 1934, the acclaimed film director Cai Chusheng and famous composer Nie Er shot their classis movie Song of the Fisherman in Xiangshan, making it the first Chinese film to win an international prize. In recent years, Xiangshan has invested 460 million yuan(US$73 million) to build venues, attractions and supporting facilities for film shooting, with a total area of 1091 Chinese mu (72.7 hectares). Since its official opening in 2005, the movie base has received over 140 film and TV screws and 3.8 million visitors. The movie base has been honored as one of China's top ten film bases and the designated movie and TV shooting base in China. It also becomes a well-known scenic spot in Zhejiang Province. In 2011, Xiangshan was among the list of top ten major supporting industrial agglomeration regions in Ningbo. It is also the key cultural construction project in the 12th Five- year period, and a modern service industry base in Ningbo. In addition, it has been approved by China National Tourism Administration as a 4A grade tourist attraction.

On the meeting, experts and advisors approved the program after a careful discussion and demonstration. They said that the program is different from the general urban planning with its creative and exploratory nature. The whole program is in line with the national requirements with its complete specification and clear functional layout. Meanwhile, experts and advisors suggested local authorities further improve the functionality and supporting infrastructure of the base, and highlight local color of Xiangshan.
