100 ecological construction projects completed

In 2013, 100 eco-civilization construction projects were completed in Ningbo, including a batch of outstanding environmental problems that may impact the regional sustainable development and people's health, with a total investment of 8.357 billion yuan. This is the result for Ningbo of the 2013 annual special assessment on eco-civilization construction carried out by the inspection team organized by Zhejiang Provincial Ecological Affairs Office.
According to the inspection team, while having strict control over the total amount of sewage for new projects, Ningbo has achieved much in promoting the cycle transformation of the development zones or industrial parks. In the assessment, Yinzhou District and Ninghai County are identified as provincial ecological cycling demonstration counties. So far, Ningbo has completed its construction of a national forest city, and cumulatively eight counties or districts have been built as provincial ecological counties (or districts).
The assessment result shows that by taking such measures as interviews and supervision, Ningbo has accelerated the regional pollution remediation. The emission reduction tasks have been fully completed, with 936 heavy-pollution enterprises closed down, including those in such industries as electroplating, printing and dyeing, chemical industry and paper-making, and 1582 illegal waste plastic processing businesses banned in Cixi County and Yuyao County. A series of special regional pollution remediation campaigns has been launched, including the implementation of leak detection and repair technology in 36 chemical enterprises in Zhenhai District and Beilun District, the implementation of smoke and dust control in seven large enterprises (including steel enterprises, power plants and cement plants), the elimination and transformation of 1294 coal-fired boilers in the whole city and the regional limits for vehicles with high emissions in the urban areas (including Haishu District, Jiangdong District and Jiangbei District), Zhenhai District, Beilun District, Yuyao County, Cixi County and Xiangshan County.
The urban afforestation project has achieved remarkable results. Last year, Ningbo initially built a green ecological barrier by completing an afforestation area of 54,000 mu, including 42,000 mu for plain afforestation, and constructing a total of 421km long forest pathways with an area of 9,861 mu. With the implementation of the forest quality promotion project, Ningbo has completed a forest cultivation area of 200.000 mu, a 153km-long biological fire-prevention forest belt and 2.88 million mu of public forest and quality forest. The green funeral construction and the beautiful village construction have been promoted and the rectification task of 100 administrative villages has been completed.
