On the afternoon of Nov. 15, the new industry promotion conference of Yuyao in Tokyo marked the beginning of 2011 Japan-Ningbo Week. Mayor Liu Qi attended the meeting and gave an address. More than 70 people from Mitsui and Co Ltd, Mitsubishi Corporation, Itochu Corporation, Marubeni Corporation, Fuji Electric Co. Ltd and other famous multinational corporation also attended the conference.
With the theme “accelerating transformation of development mode, promoting economic upgrading”, the Japan-Ningbo Week this year, in line with requirements of “six speed-ups”, closely focused the strategy of accelerating the advanced manufacturing industry and modern service industry for the purpose of increasing Ningbo’s core competitiveness and internationalization. Ningbo will further expand its influence in Japan, promote the wide cooperation communication with all fields of Japan, complement each other’s advantage and achieve win-win cooperation by means of holding high level symposium, special promotion conference and negotiation and investigation.
In his speech, Liu congratulated the new industry cooperation promotion conference of Yuyao and gave a brief introduction of economic and social development in Ningbo. He also said strategic new industry was the dominant power ushering in future development. He said “nowadays, taking the historic opportunity that Zhejiang marine economy has been upgraded as a part of national strategy, Ningbo is accelerating the transformation and upgrading of its industry and vigorously developing strategic new industry. Japan has solid R&D strength in new material, new energy, information technology and energy conservation and environment protection. Therefore, the cooperation space is large and our cooperation has a bright prospect. Through this conference we will achieve the cooperation in equipment manufacturing, intelligent appliances and modern service industry. Meanwhile, welcome Japanese entrepreneurs to Ningbo to investigate, cooperate and invest. I hope we can realize mutual benefit and common development.”
From the introduction, Yuyao recommended four pillar industries such as household appliance, mould of plastics, machinery, chemical fiber and textile. Besides, they also brought four growing industries such as optical, mechanical and electronic integration, electronic information, new material and biochemical engineering. At the conference, contracts for projects such as igniting device for gasoline engines, Kitchenware, new sealing material and digital pathological system worth 32.5 million dollars in investment were signed. They invested 15 million dollars in digital pathological system and telemedicine project and brought in advanced digital pathological systems to make a breakthrough in this field. Yuyao not only absorbs investment, but also introduces talented person and projects, e.g. they imported oversea high level innovative team guided by Doctor Chen Tao. Besides, Yuyao also exerts great effort in developing new industries and promoting the transformation and upgrading of its industry.
With approval from the State Council, Mayor Liu Qi set out to visit Japan, Candada and Cuba the other day, on invitation of The Association for the Promotion of International Trade, Japan, Canadian MAG company, and Cuban Embassy in China.
In Japan, Liu Qi would attend the serial activities of the Japan Ningbo Week, visit famous transnationals and negotiate on industrial cooperation projects. He would also try to promote the cooperation with the advanced manufacturing industries of Japan and seize the opportunity of Japan’s industrial transformation to undertake some industrial transfer and to promote the economic development of Ningbo.
In Canada, he would talk with Sino-Canada Trade Council, learn about the investment projects of Ningbo in Canada and seek more opportunities for Ningbo companies to make investments there. He expected to undertake some cooperation in mining and energy fields.
In Cuba, he would meet the trading ministry and learn about the market needs, in a hope of seizing some cooperation opportunities. He would also visit the Chinese embassy in Cuba and learn about the economic cooperation of Ningbo with Cuba.
