In the scorching summer, Ningbo Library has once again become a popular spot where citizens and readers can study and relax, and avoid the summer heat.
Ningbo Library welcomes its peak season in summer
Ningbo Library has experienced a peak in reception of readers and in book borrowing. According to statistics, with the surging demand for “study and avoiding summer heat” among citizens, since the beginning of summer vacation, the Fuqing Hall of Ningbo Library has received an average of 7,700 readers per day, an increase of about 74% compared to the previous month. Especially during the period from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm every day, the maximum number of visitors reading in the library is about 2,000.
Since its opening one week ago, the Children’s Hall of Ningbo Library has attracted an average of over 5,000 visitors per day, with an average of 7,800 visitors per day on weekends. The maximum number of visitors in the library is nearly 1,500, between 10am and 11am. It has become a new favorite of young readers and their parents.
According to the staff of Ningbo Library, the average daily number of borrowing and returning of books in Fuqing Hall, Yongfeng Hall, and Children’s Hall is 15,000 volumes by 4297 people, an increase of 67% and 77% respectively compared to in June.
Upgraded services attract more readers
Ningbo Library has adjusted its opening hours to facilitate the flow of visitors. For example, the Fuqing Hall of Ningbo Library opens at 8:45am, 15 minutes earlier than usual. Meanwhile, with the help of order maintenance personnel, the entry speed can increase by about 50%, avoiding the long queues after 9am.
To meet the demand of readers for reading seats, the Fuqing Hall of Ningbo Library has added 60 more reading seats in the library. The multifunctional hall on the first floor is open for readers to study if there is no special activity, with about 40 seats.
In addition, Ningbo Library has purchased some required reading materials for primary and secondary school students, including over 2,000 traditional cultural books for students and picture books for young children, like “Red Star Over China”, “Bronze Sunflower”, “Secret of the Treasure Gourd”, which have been put on shelves in Fuqing Hall and Yongfeng Hall before the summer vacation, to meet the borrowing needs of young readers.
The Children’s Hall of the library offers over 320,000 volumes of various kinds of books for children. Then at the hall on the first floor, there is a special theme reading area for children and their parents, with over 200 volumes of well chosen classic books for children of different age groups.
Colorful activities will be held
In addition to the rich collection of books, with the increasing heat of summer, a series of exciting reading activities will be launched at Ningbo Library.
Special lectures, special summer concerts, and classic movie appreciation activities will be launched successively. For example, this weekend, the Fuqing Hall of Ningbo Library will host two special events, namely the 100th Mini Concert (also the Summer Olympic Concert), and the 22nd Chamber Music Quartet Concert (also the concert to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France).
