Ningbo celebrity shares Song Dynasty style of Ningbo Architecture online Architectural Encyclopedia "Laws of Architecture" has absorbed many Ningbo architectural elements.

On the evening of July 16, as one of "Ala Ningbonese" lectures, "The Sacred Relics of the Sea Silk Road—Ningbo Song Style Relics", was livestreaming at Ningbo Library. The lecture was given by Huang Dingfu, associate researcher of cultural relics and museums of Ningbo Institute of Cultural Heritage Management.

Huang firstly explains the main features of traditional Chinese Song Dynasty architecture - the production process of Dougong, then analyzes the difference between Dougong in Tang and Song Dynasties and Dougong in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and then had in-depth interpretation of each building with significant Song Dynasty characteristics one by one.

Then, Huang focused on the influence of ancient Ningbo Song Dynasty architectural elements on Japan and Korea. China's self-contained architecture system, especially Ningbo's wood-frame buildings, has had a profound impact on the architectural culture of neighboring countries. The historic buildings in Kyoto and Nara, Japan, protected by the famous architect Mr. Liang Sicheng, are inextricably linked with Ningbo's architectural culture.

Ningbo in Song Dynasty was called Mingzhou and Qingyuan successively. With special geographical location, it is the end point of China's Grand Canal and the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road. It has been one of the important coastal ports in China since ancient times. Ningbo is famous all over the world because of the prosperity of the port and the name of Mingzhou. Ningbo faces Japan and the Korean peninsula across the sea. Since the Tang Dynasty sent envoys to open up the route from Ningbo to the Japanese archipelago, the sailing of the Silk Road has been unbroken for thousands of years, and reached its peak in the Song Dynasty. The Buddhist architecture and the local handicraft elements of Ningbo Song Dynasty can still be found in Japan and South Korea.

At the end of the lecture, he summarized the value of Ningbo Song Style architecture. He believes that Ningbo architecture reached a climax in the Song Dynasty. The architecture practice of Baoguo Temple was earlier than the theory, as the earliest stone archway imitating wooden structure discovered in China, the Erling Pagoda with various rare stone carvings, and Tianfeng Tower, the landmark of the old city, all display Ningbo's first-class beautiful Song Style architecture. It is a "living fossil" on the Maritime Silk Road, unique and scarce, with great historical, cultural and scientific value.

This lecture is jointly organized by Ningbo Library and Haishu District Writers Association, and is one of the "Song Style by Ningbo Celebrities " activities
