Immediately after the management department of highway transportation dropped coach fare for the line Ningbo to Wenzhou, they announced that they will provide further discount for those who chose to take coaches from Ningbo to Wenzhou or Fuzhou. South Airline also announced that they would cancel the flight from Ningbo to Fuzhou.
Highway transportation is now having its off season after Golden Week of National Day holiday, especially after MU trains enterted the transportation market. On the morning of the day before yesterday, we visited Ningbo Central Coach Station and found that only four were in the coach to Xiapu, Fujian Province, when it was time for the coach to set off.
A driver says that they are definitely to lose money. it costs them five thousand Yuan to have a return journey. However, they have only four passengers.
It’s obvious that less passengers choose coaches to Wenzhou, Taizhou and Fujian because they have MU trains to choose. In order to attract more passengers, Ningbo Public Transportation Group announced that they would provide discount for those who chose to take coaches from Ningbo to Wenzhou or Fuzhou.
Fu Ding, Director of Service, Ningbo Central Coach Station, says that from 16 of the month, those who go to Wenzhou and Fujian will enjoy discount from 7 percent to 16 percent. We hope that the discount will attract more passengers.
Clerks in the station also say that, in addition to providing discount, they will arrange more coaches so as to compete with MU trains. But the coaches to Fujian will have to suffer the situation in which that there are still few passengers.
South Airline feels great pressure brougt about by MU trains. The airline from Ningbo to Fuzhou was initiated only in Septmeber and fly from Ningbo to Fuzhou and finally to Guilin three times a week. After MU trains were put into use, the orginal number of 20 to 30 passengers has dropped to a dozen of passengers. South Airline once considered decrease of ticket fare and for a time provided 70 percent discount, but still atracted few passengers.
Gao Jing, Director of Market, South Airline, says that It will take passengers an hour to fly from Ningbo to Fuzhou, but the time needed to go from the airport to the downtown will be much more than the time needed to go by train from Ningbo to Fuzhou. What’s more, it’s not easy to travel by air. There will be no passengers in future unless that we provide greater discount. After only three flights from Ningbo to Fuzhou, South Airline annouced in the last week that they will cancel the flight to Fuzhou.
