The Haitang site on the south bank of Hangzhou Bay is a treasure among the ancient Haitang ruins in China, its content form is very rich, the scale is large and spectacular, there are more than 20 remains, and it was praised as the "open-air sea pond museum" by Chen Qiaoyi, a famous geographer and tenured professor of Zhejiang University in China.

According to historical records, in the Ming Dynasty, the eastern coast was plagued by the Wokou, and in order to strengthen the defense, the local magistrate of Shipu recruited skilled craftsmen to build castle walls and sea ponds around the original villages, and opened up water gates.

According to Shen Jimin, president of Ningbo Water Culture Research Association, behind each sea pond, there are "contained" different historical stories, with unique cultural heritage, and has become a beautiful landscape of modern port city
