“I didn’t expect our original program to appear on such an international stage. In this work, I added such Chinese opera elements as water sleeve performance, which won unanimous praise from international friends. This is the charm of our traditional Chinese culture, and

we are very proud of it!” said Zhang Shuting, a member of the Ningbo Youth Art Exchange Troupe.

Over the past two days, the Ningbo Youth Art Exchange troupe went to Jeju, South Korea to participate in the 2023 “East Asian Cultural Capital” exchange event. Teenagers from China, Japan, and South Korea have engaged in a series of cultural exchange activities using art and music as a medium.

At the closing ceremony, the Ningbo Youth Art Exchange Troupe performed the programs with Chinese characteristics, such as the dance song “green hills in mist”, the Chinese-style song “Blue and White Porcelain”, and the solar-term song “Autumn Equinox”, which left a deep impression on friends from Japan and South Korea.

After watching the performance, Wang Luxin, Chinese Consul General in Jeju, praised the performers, saying “Young people are the future and they should become new ambassadors to spread the voice of China by shouldering the responsibility of promoting the excellent traditional Chinese culture. In this event, young people from Ningbo demonstrated the beautiful image and style of ‘cultural Ningbo and beautiful China’, injecting youthful vitality into our cultural inheritance and exchange.”

At the original works sharing activity, young people from China, Japan, and South Korea showcased their unique skills in traditional opera performances, drum set playing, and calligraphy and painting works composing.

Cheng Sizhe from Zhejiang Vocational and Technical College of Business said, “ ‘The Song We Learned Together’ is my original work, which recorded our communication time and deep friendship in the past few days. After the vote of Japanese and Korean members in the group, this song became a representative song of our group performance.”

“Through this exchange activity, I felt the close connection between the East Asian cultural circle. For example, when I heard the performance of the Taiping Xiao, I immediately thought of the bone whistle of the Hemudu Site in my hometown of Yuyao County,” said Zhang Ruofei, a member of the exchange troupe.

According to Fan Jie, leader of the Ningbo Youth Art Exchange Troupe and Vice Chairman of Ningbo Chorus Association, this time they first went to South Korea for cultural exchange. After experiencing the “Four Things Game” of Korean agricultural culture, the Ningbo team members together adapted and displayed the solar-term song “Autumn Equinox” in the shortest possible time, which is worth praising.

Reportedly, the Ningbo Youth Art Exchange Troupe will continue their trip and visit Nara, Japan, for the next stop
