Xiangshan County selected as "national health county"

Xiangshan County has been identified as a "national health county", which is shown in the 2011-2013 list of the national health counties (towns) released recently by the National Patriotic Health Campaign Committee.
By the end of 2013, the committee had conducted an assessment of those towns that applied for the qualification of the national health county from 2011 to 2013. In accordance with the "appraisal and regulations for national health counties (towns)" and recommendation of the sub-committees from 24 provinces, autonomous regions or municipalities, 197 counties or towns finally earned the title of "national health counties".
Xiangshan County started the construction of "national health county" at the end of 2010. The county party committee and county government gave top priority to the construction work and organized delegations to conduct regular inspections to promote the construction. With the county leaders standing in the front of the construction work, great achievements have been made. As the publicity of the work deepens, an accumulated amount of 400,000 people get involved in the construction. Some major projects are promoted, including the expansion of the road network and the alleviation of the parking difficulty.
With the deepening of the comprehensive improvement work, a new mode of garbage disposal has been adopted in suburban villages. The urban and rural environment has improved a lot with 70 open-air garbage bins and piles removed, road markets relocated, and some old alleys transformed. The health measures have been taken in public places and the density of the public nuisance has seen a large decrease. Rectification of such major regions and industries as markets and surrounding areas, construction sites and unlicensed small food stools has been launched, which has improved the market order, promoted the civilized construction and the guaranteed the 100% license rate for small restaurants.
Urban management ability has been greatly improved with the promotion of the "smart urban management" and the implementation of the grid inspection system. The traffic infrastructure construction on some major roads has been accelerated, "smart traffic" system constructed and put into operation, and urban road management strengthened. The establishment of the taxi assessment system has greatly enhanced the civilized image of taxis. Various forms of food security education have been carried out at different links of food circulation, such as the implementation of the assessment of food security scale and the improvement of people’s awareness for civilized business. The business order in urban areas has been further regulated with the strengthening of the supervision on responsibility zones and the improving of the assessing rules.
In the meanwhile, the coordination mechanism, inspection mechanism and assessment mechanism are well in place with all the departments concerned making joint efforts to promote the timely solution of problems and the establishment of the working mechanism of assessment promoting construction. The sample survey shows that the satisfaction rate of citizens towards the urban health conditions reaches 93.1%.
Based on the secret field investigation, the National Patriotic Health Campaign Committee claimed that the construction results in Xiangshan County are remarkable, with infrastructure construction strengthened, environmental health improved and people's civilization and health awareness increased, and it satisfies the requirements of the "standard for national health county". It is hoped that the county can further consolidate its construction achievements and improve its long-term management mechanism with the selection as a new starting point. The patriotic health campaign will be strengthened to improve the health conditions and living environment of the rural areas so that more people can share the good results of the construction.
