Over 3000 yew podocarpus imported via Ningbo Port

On April 12, along with the inspection of the latest batch of yew podocarpus import, the total number of the trees has broken the 3000 mark. Since January 2012, when Meishan Port obtained approval for yew podocarpus import, 3087 trees in 119 batches, with a total value of US$1414.838 million, have been imported. With the import number accounting for about 80% of the imports in China, Ningbo Port has become the biggest import port for yew podocarpus in China.

According to reports, along with the urbanization process, the domestic market has a great demand for large-scale landscape plants, including such trees as yew podocarpus. The import via Ningbo port has increased dramatically. In the first quarter, 1471 yew podocarpus in 56 batches were imported, contained in 308 TEUs with a total value of US$7.001 million, which has surpassed the import volume of that of the whole year of 2012.

It is reported that the related inspection and quarantine organizations have made great efforts to promote the import of special plants and flowers. While taking strict precautions against the of overseas epidemic situation brought by the plants, they carried out a series of convenience measures including the "zero waiting" system and protective treatment of imported plants, which were well received by related enterprises. At present, Ningbo has attracted a dozen of import enterprises from such places as Guangdong, Shaanxi and Shanghai to conduct their transactions.
