The municipal environmental and transportation watchdogs examined two stone quarries in Fenghua, a county-level city of Ningbo last Sunday.

"Studies on the particle formation mechanism in recent years show, dust is the second largest source of PM2.5, taking up over 28 percent. Dust generated in mining activities is the major source of dust pollution," said Jiang Lisheng, director of Ecological Office of the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau.

Currently, local environmental departments and transportation departments are carrying out a joint inspection over the quarries in Ningbo. They vow to shut any quarries causing serious pollution in a bid to curb the quantity of dust in the city.
