5 college students rescued from mountain blizzard

Five college students were rescued Tuesday morning, 10 hours after they were stranded by a blizzard in Siming Mountain, partly located in Ningbo's Yuyao, rescuers said.

The five young men climbed to one peak of Siming mountain Monday afternoon after bearing the brunt of a snow storm. They were unable to make their way out of the mountains when returning. Police in Shengzhou received an emergency call from one of them at 17:45 pm on Monday and immediately sent out rescuers to search for the students but couldn't immediately located them. Local police in Simingshan Township also sent four police officers to join the rescue around 21:00 pm. The police finally located the trapped climbers with the help of GPS tracking system. Meanwhile, local government sent four rescuers to assist the police.

Around 3:00 on Tuesday morning, local police received good news from their Shengzhou counterparts, saying they had found and rescued the five trapped students.

Local authorities urge tourists to avoid mountain climbing as traffic in the mountains was snarled by snow and climbing could become very dangerous.
