Mainland buyers have snapped up two of the three homes sold at the 28 Barker Road luxury project on The Peak.

The latest cross-border buyer is philanthropist tycoon Qian Fenglei, pictured, who splashed out HK$690 million last month for House No 7, spread over 6,847 square feet. The house also comes with a 1,822 sq ft garden and two car parks.

Much is not known about the background or business of Qian. But the tycoon from Ningbo, Zhejiang, is known for his generous donations to victims of the May 2008 Sichuan earthquake. He gave out lai see worth over two million yuan (HK$2.6 million) at his cousin's wedding in March 2012 and is also known to give Lunar New Year lai see to the elderly in his hometown.

His purchase comes after mainland lawyer Li Shufeng in November bought the 6,863 sq ft House No 8 for HK$740 million. At HK$107,825 per sellable sq ft, it was Hong Kong's third most- expensive home sale.

Four houses in the project have yet to be sold.
