Internet expert speaks on smart city construction in Ningbo

On March 9, Gao Xinmin, vice director-general of China Internet Association gave a lecture entitled “Advanced Stage of Modernized City Development” for the Jiangdong district cadres, some executives of the information business enterprises and the people from three major communication operators(China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom). He recounted such issues as the comparison between “digital city” and “smart city”, the technological background of “smart city” and what to do in the process of constructing a “smart city” as well as how to push forward the construction.

It is said that 60 cities in China have made the development plans of “smart city” and more than 100 oversea cities have already started to practice the “smart city”.  According to Gao Xinmin, the construction of “smart city” is a long-term and systematic project, which can not be completed overnight. “We can not wait and need to start early. This is the competition”, he said.
Since the city started the "smart city" program, Jiangdong is in the lead of its network infrastructure construction. At present, the district has not only realized the full coverage of wifi network, 3G network and the pilot 4G network, but also launched 13 projects such as “digital city management upgrading”, “smart and healthy hygiene informationization” and regional video surveillance system of Jiangdong Branch of Public Security Bureau.

"At present, the construction of a smart city should avoid two tendencies: one is the lowering of standards. We should always keep in mind that smart city is merely a different name and it still requires the same as the digital city; the other is the divorce from the real conditions. And we should not set some unrealistic goals. “In the lecture, Gao spoke highly of Ningbo’s "smart city plan" and recommended Jiangdong District to do more in providing services.
