Cixi Assists Guizhou with Its Characteristic Agricultural Projects

The past four month has witnessed the tremendous changes in Shancha Village of Southwest Guizhou Province: on the 33 acres of fields erect rows of steel frame greenhouses, and vines planted inside begin to sprout.
This Grape Growing Demonstration Project for Poverty Alleviation in Guizhou is another agricultural project from Cixi, apart from Cixi’s assistance in other projects like industrial base for edible mushroom export, and giant freshwater prawn cultivation. Since 2018, Cixi has been helping Guizhou’s Anlong Town and Xinshen City to upgrade their agricultural production, and to get local farmers out of poverty. Up to now, Cixi has invested over 51.9 million yuan for agricultural assistance to Southwest Guizhou.
To help people in poverty, experts from Cixi imparts them with knowledge on growing waxberry—the city’s representative produce. Now 3.2 acres of water chestnut and waxberry have been planted in Anlong National Forest Park. “If the first batch of waxberry promises great interests, we will grow more waxberries to boost the income of people in poverty.” said Chen Zehui, deputy director of Poverty Alleviation Office of Anlong Town.
Moreover, Cixi invests 5 million to Xinren Jinzhou Cattle Project, aiming to bolster local cattle growing and the development of meat processing industry. Thanks to that sum of investment, Zhenwushan Street of Xinshen manages to build 7,099 square meters of cattle enclosure, level 15,000 square meters of fields, and grow 40 hectares of Pennisetum hydridum (a kind of herbage) to feed cattles. “When collecting herbage from farmers, we offer a 50-yuan premium per ton to farmers in poverty. We put people in poverty working in the base first and give them 120-yuan salary a day.” Said a person from the farm.
Among the fifteen agricultural projects Cixi has assisted Guizhou with, twelve have been completed. In 2019, Cixi will look at agricultural projects in Guizhou, and augment its assistance to the Anlong Town, and Xinren City in developing their dominant industries to boost agriculture in mountainous areas of Cixi and Guizhou
