City discourages Chinese New Year fireworks amid smog concerns

Local authorities recently issued a proposal, calling for zero use or reducing use of fireworks during the upcoming Spring Festival and celebrate an environment friendly, safe, happy and peaceful Chinese New Year.
According to the statement jointly released by ten relevant local departments, the public are urged not to buy fireworks in illegal stalls or buy fireworks products banned from individual usage. The public is also discouraged from using fireworks during late hours or using fireworks in places with poor ventilation, in the building, balconies, lanes, or lawns. Besides, parents should not allow young children to handle or use fireworks.
