Patents driving corporate innovations in Cixi

Optical reflecting coating used to be the “patent” of Japanese or Korean enterprises. However, such monopoly has been broken by Ningbo EXC New Material Technology co., LTD which has realized the industrialization of “the preparation method of optical reflecting coating” as a patent project, selected into the first batch of patent industrialization demonstration projects.
Relevant experts point out that patents give expression to innovative product and core technology of enterprises. In order to create a sound atmosphere of the prominence and application of patents, we regard intellectual property as appraisal requirements of all science and technology projects. Therefore, we carry out veto with a single vote towards enterprises without proprietary intellectual property rights during the appraisal, approval and recommendation of projects about training for innovative enterprises, the construction of engineering technology centres of enterprises or tackling of major scientific problems. At the moment, 50% of around 1,000 enterprises with certain scale in Cixi take part in intellectual property activities. All 300 scientific and technological enterprises own patent licensing.
The content, quality and quantity of patents are always important. The value of patents owned by enterprises in Cixi is even higher. In accordance with the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, the number of applied patents, applied patents for invention, authorized patents and authorized patents for invention is 6831, 1100, 6001 and 274 respectively. Meanwhile, the number of applied patents and authorized patents comes out top in Zhejiang Province. It is pleasant that the number of applied patents for invention and authorized patents has increased on year-on-year basis. Applied patents for invention on behalf of core proprietary intellectual property rights and authorized patents for utility models account for over 50% in total so far.
The innovation and pioneering spirit stimulated by patents have transformed and benefited plenty of enterprises. For example, Ningbo Cotek Electric Appliance Co., Ltd applies 40 EU patents for the appearance and has gained 103 domestic and foreign patents which has brought kettles and coffee machines into a new high and won consumers’ favour. Nearly all leading enterprises such as Xinhai, Qinyuan, Futile and Bull boast a large number of authorized patents.
Patents light the innovative fire of the manufacturing industry in Cixi and help them come out top. At present, enterprises in Cixi have got the floor of national (industrial) standard setting in the area of electric engineering, water treatment, kitchen and bath devices as well as sockets. There are 70 enterprises in Cixi participating in 181 projects of standard setting in all kinds with 94 China famous brands and 76 provincial famous brands. Currently, we have trained IPR demonstration enterprises at all levels for 95 enterprise times including 3 national IPR demonstration enterprises accounting for 20% in Zhejiang Province.
