In order to further improve the quality of the historical and cultural blocks along the Drum Tower, starting from July this year, the block along the Drum Tower has undergone a comprehensive "dress up"：the current repair, transformation and upgrading projects are underway.
It is learned that this renovation and upgrading has innovatively improved the cultural heritage and historical features of the historic sub-city through the integration of historical intangible cultural heritage, the full use of 3D lighting and digital intelligent technology.
The Drum Tower District takes on new look
On November 1st, I visited the block along the Drum Tower. The exterior walls of the antique pavilions have been newly painted, with vermilion as the main color, gold lacquered beams and painted buildings...The broken railings have been repaired, and the awnings of the stores along the street have been uniformly updated.
On the side wall of the pedestrian street shop, the artists are working on the floor wall painting. This is an immersive work of art combining sculpture and painting. The painting is about a historic cookie store and a historic pharmacy. There are many wall painting art landscapes like this.
The rendering of the intangible cultural heritage pavilion.
In the middle of the main street, a row of old small wooden commodity houses have been completely removed and replaced with Tang-style intangible heritage pavilions, a total of nine. The intangible cultural heritage pavilion does not make food, but serves as a window to display and sell Ningbo's outstanding award-winning intangible cultural heritage works, spreading the traditional culture of Ningbo.
A new 3D light show will be launched
In order to display Ningbo culture in three dimensions, the Drum Tower will also launch a brand new 3D light show with the Drum Tower city wall as the background. Different from the previous one, there will be a big improvement both in terms of technology and content this time.
The 3D light and shadow show features the historical and cultural development of Ningbo, highlights the architectural structure of the Drum Tower City Wall, and uses naked-eye 3D animation technology to travel through time and space.
From the ancient times of Jingtou Mountain and Hemudu culture to the rise of Drum Tower and the birth of sub-city, it runs through the historical and cultural contexts of the Maritime Silk Road, Book Collection, Ningbo Merchants, Port Development, etc., telling the past and present of Ningbo through the art of light show. The 3D light show will be used as a promotional film for the history and culture of Ningbo city and will be exhibited on a regular basis.
In addition to the Drum Tower 3D light show, a holographic projection stage will be built in the theater area of the block to show local features such as Yong Opera and Yue Opera.
A lantern landscape will be built
The block will also build a traditional cultural lantern landscapes, including street lantern arrays, cross-street lantern arrays, and stacked Aoshan lantern arrays. It is estimated that more than 1,000 lanterns will be used.
The festive lantern array is composed of various traditional lanterns. The lantern cover cloth is a hand-painted picture of Ningbo cultural elements and the logo of the Drum Tower. The lights are controlled by digital technology DMX512. Every time the drum bell rings at the hour at night, it starts to light up regularly, forming a rippling light and dark change as a whole, which will give visitors a strong visual impact.
Volunteer service will be available
In addition to hardware and technical improvements, many volunteer services have also been incorporated in the district along the Drum Tower. The block will set up a mother and baby room, which will provide hot water, emergency call and other functions in addition to conventional equipments, and provide exclusive services for mothers with babies. In addition, the Ningbo Volunteer Service We Station will be set up with volunteers on duty to provide tourists with a variety of services.
