 exceeds 10 billion yuan

On January 24, at the warehouse of Ningbo Jinri Food Co., Ltd., boxes of tuna meat were neatly stacked on the wooden trays, ready to be loaded into containers and transported to the port yard. This batch of nearly 12 tons of tuna meat inspected by Fenghua Branch of Ningbo Customs will soon be sold to Australia with the export inspection and quarantine certificate.

By taking advantage of the port and the cold chains, Ningbo’s agricultural products have achieved a lot in terms of export. According to statistics from Ningbo Customs, the export value of agricultural products in Ningbo reached 10.23 billion yuan last year, a year-on-year

increase of 7.7%. This is the first time for the annual export value to exceed the 10 billion yuan mark, setting a new historical high.

From the perspective of the categories of the agricultural products, aquatic products, canned goods, edible mushrooms, and tea ranked among the top in terms of export value, with 3.82 billion yuan, 1.18 billion yuan, 860 million yuan, and 760 million yuan, respectively.

Among others, thanks to the unique climate and soil conditions of Ningbo, the green tea products were quite popular, with an export value of 530 million yuan last year, a year-on-year increase of 29.2%. Due to the convenience of importing raw materials via Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, the export value of tuna meat exceeded one billion yuan last year, a year-on-year increase of 9.1%. In 2023, Ningbo exported 450 million yuan of malt for brewing, a year-on-year increase of 14.2%.

As for the export destinations, Ningbo agricultural products were exported to over 150 countries and regions worldwide, with the main destinations being Japan, the United States, and South Korea. Last year, Ningbo’s export value of agricultural products to the aforementioned three countries exceeded 2.3 billion yuan, 1.3 billion yuan, and 1.1 billion yuan respectively, accounting for 47% of the total agricultural product exports during the same period.

According to a person in charge from Ningbo Dabu Food Co., Ltd., the company specializes in the export of frozen vegetables, mainly to such destinations as the United States, South Korea, Australia, and Japan. However, the demand in Europe is also increasing year by year. “This year, we have even received the fresh water peach orders from Dutch customers.”

In order to ensure the “freshness” of agricultural products for export and smooth customs clearance in the importing countries, Ningbo Customs has promoted the territorial inspection reform, and comprehensively launched the “cloud issuing” model of inspection and quarantine certificates, to guarantee the timely issuance of the “passports” of agricultural products. In the meantime, in response to the different seasonal conditions and production environments of agricultural products, Ningbo Customs has classified and formulated different local inspection models, and got involved in advance in the planting and breeding environment, production process, and finished product quality, to ensure that all indicators of exported agricultural products will meet the food safety standards of the importing countries
