Automobile industry base worth of 100-billion yuan to be built in Hangzhou Bay New Zone

With the introduction of the two entire-vehicle projects of Geely and Volkswagen (Shanghai) and settlement of a range of high-end core parts manufacturers such as Mando (South Korea), Faurecia (France), Visteon (USA) and Yazaki (Japan), Hangzhou Bay New Zone has become an important automobile industry base and high-end core automobile parts manufacturing base.

In January last year, the high-end automobile parts industrial park was established in the new zone in cooperation with the Geely Group. In April, the whole-vehicle project of Geely with an annual output of 120,000 automobiles was put into production. In January 2012, the whole-vehicle project of Volkswagen with an annual output of 300,000 automobiles began to be constructed. In March 2012, the supplier park for the Ningbo base of Volkswagen (Shanghai) (also known as Ningbo International Automobile Industrial Park) started to invite business. According to Zhou Jiangyong, member of the Standing Committee of Ningbo Party Committee and Secretary of the Working Committee of the administrative committee of the new zone, the automobile industry is one of the major 100 billion yuan industries to be cultivated in Ningbo, and it is also the dominating industry in the new zone and leading industry in enterprise transformation and upgrading. To promote the specialized, high-end and large-scale development of the automobile industry may play a significant role in implementing the large platform construction set by the provincial government and party committee and the "six-quickening" strategic planning set by Ningbo municipal government and party committee, as well as in building the demonstrative zone of "quality development".

According to the schedule given by the site headquarters of Volkswagen (Shanghai), the record for the fastest whole-vehicle production will be born in the zone. This year, by speeding up the construction of the large platform featuring automobile industry and enlarging the accumulative effect of the settlement of Volkswagen, the zone will make great efforts to attract a range of big and effective projects with global influence and a leading role in industrial transformation and upgrading, including three to five Fortune 500 (world) companies and over five Fortune 500 (China) companies. So far, some specialists and specialized advisory agencies in automobile industry have been entrusted by the new zone authority to design the development planning of the automobile industrial park, and the industrial park for automobiles and parts has been listed as one of the eight major parks to be constructed during the 12th Five-Year Plan period. It is estimated that by 2015, the total turnover of the automobile industry in the new zone will break 100 billion yuan.

Ye Wentao, Chief of Economic Development and Administrative Approval Bureau of Hangzhou Bay New Zone, commented that as the "industrial locomotive", automobile industry has a long industrial chain and plays an indispensible role in strengthening the local comprehensive economy.
