Ningbo Tea Culture Seminar held

On May 6 and 7, the Ningbo Tea History and Tea Culture Seminar was held, attracting over 100 tea experts and lovers from home and abroad to discuss about tea culture in Ningbo. The participants also attended the themed creation activity of the Yucheng Kiln sponsored by Ningbo Tea Culture Museum. Three pieces of precious Yucheng Kiln collection made their debut on the spot of the creation conference.
Present at the seminar are Sun Zhonghuan, executive vice-president of China International Tea Culture Research Association, Wang Xiaoling, secretary-general of the association, Yao Jingbo, vice-chairman of China Tea Marketing Association, David Lyons, founder of Australian Tea Culture Seminar and chairman of the organizing committee of the seminar, Tang Qianxun, lecturer of Kwansei Gakuin University of Japan, Liao Zifang, president of China International Tea Art Association, Wang Jing, vice-director of the Institute of Tourism of Osaka University of Tourism, and Yu Jingren, president of Korea-China Tea Culture Exchange Association.
At the creation conference, Cai Yi, director of the Sealing Committee of China Calligraphers' Association and chairman of Ningbo Calligraphers' Association, He Shengsi, advisor of Ningbo Calligraphers' Association and a prominent artist in
Ningbo, and local members of the Xiling Society of Seal Arts participated in the seal cutting. Zhang Sheng, inheritor of the Yucheng Kiln intangible cultural heritage item and president of Ningbo Tea Culture Museum, designed the Yucheng Kiln imitation of the ancient purple sand works for the created teapots at the conference.
Meanwhile, three elaborate Yucheng Kiln works were exhibited at Ningbo Tea Culture Museum for the first time. Reportedly, the Yucheng Kiln was started during the Guangxu years of Qing Dynasty, and its founder was Mei Tiaoding, a prominent calligraphy of Ningbo origin. The works of the kiln are mainly purple sand teapots, especially in such forms as stone base, melon pot and Qin-measure pot.
"By participating in the creation of the calligraphy dn painting of the Yuecheng Kiln teapots, we hope to pass down the artistic forms and cultural traditions of the "scholar-style purple sand teapots" of the last Qing Dynasty in Ningbo and make our contribution to the spreading of the glorious tea history and tea art of Ningbo and the publicity of the significance of the Yucheng Kiln teapots", said a person in charge from Ningbo Tea Culture Museum. It is hoped that the integration of the traditional poetry, calligraphy, painting and sealing with the Chinese tea art and teapots may boost the new vigor of the distinctive traditional culture
