Manufacturing industry regains momentum in digital economy

Ningbo's manufacturing industry started with light industry. In the 30 years before the reform and opening up, "one line, one pen, one piece of cloth, and one piece of clothing" of "Made in Ningbo” became the main force for the rise of Ningbo's economy. However, factors such as rising labor costs, changes in market environment, changes in consumer preferences, and overcapacity have made these once-famous traditional manufacturing industries face the pain of transition. How to improve Ningbo's traditional manufacturing industry has become an urgent task for Ningbo's economic growth.

On April 4th, the city held a live meeting of the city's traditional manufacturing transformation and upgrading. During the visit, we found that traditional manufacturing companies are constantly improving their competitiveness in the digital economy era through innovation in production, management and sales.

Production innovation: the customization cycle is reduced from 15 days to 2 days

The first stop of the on-site meeting was Ningbo's traditional clothing giant Youngor. It is true that there are still many workers in the workshop. However, the visitors will be impressed by the most advanced clothing intelligent workshop in the country after their visit.

The first difficulty in intelligent manufacturing lies in the description of the process. Especially for the clothing to be customized, it is necessary to describe the hundreds of processes of a suit according to the individual requirements and distribute it to every worker and station. This is a huge challenge for the intelligent manufacturing system.

This step can be accomplished thanks to Youngor's many years’ accumulation of process manufacturing. For each process, Youngor has completed a set of its own process standards. When the system receives the production data of a piece of clothing, it can automatically decompose and generate hundreds of process orders and send them to the PAD screen on each worker's station. Workers can work on their cards and they will be very clear about what they want to do next.

The order for a suit involves more than 70 pieces of fabric and more than 300 processes. It took 15 days to produce a tailor-made Youngor suit, and now it only takes 2 days. After the smart factory is launched, it is estimated that the annual output can reach more than 140,000 sets, which is 20% higher in terms of production capacity. Mass production capacity has also increased from 10% of the original total to over 30%.

The data ran through the sewing machines, making a nearly 40-year-old garment manufacturer shine with technology.

Sales innovation: delivery will be completed within 30 minutes

The internal management has been improved, and the production process has been smart, but the products have to be ultimately sold to consumers, and sales innovation is crucial. Let’s take a look at the new "fashion" of the old brand’s electric "new retail"?

Youngor’s new trick is to make data a core production factor, deploying production materials, and adjusting production relationships.

"For example, which clothes should be placed in a conspicuous position? Previously, it relied on experience, but now it can rely on data." Younger IT director Zhang Kaidong explained.

When the dress is taken to the fitting room for trial wear, the sensor in the fitting room is sensed and the try-on rate is finally obtained. The try-on rate not only indicates whether the dress is popular, but also the designer's grasp of the style.

If a piece of clothing has a high rate of try-on, but the purchase rate is very low, it means the style is very good, but actual look is not so good, which means that there is a problem with the version, and the version maker should be blamed for it. Of course, if the rate of try-on is high and the purchase rate is high, then it is a competitive product that can not only be placed in a conspicuous position in the store, but also reminds the store to stock more.

In the future, Youngor may also let the takeaway brother become the courier of the e-commerce. The clothes photographed on the Internet are directly delivered by the store nearest to the consumer.

This set of dispatch system is similar to Didi. It has a sort of logical algorithm. First, the same store with multiple pieces will have the priority. For example, one buyer has taken three pieces of clothing, and the shop that can send these three orders at the same time has priority. Among the priorities, the store closer in distance or more convenient in logistics will be chosen.

If an order is dispatched to an offline store, but it is not received for several hours or is not packaged for a few days after receiving the order, it will be transferred to another eligible store.

In the future, clothes bought online may be sent to consumers in 30 minutes. It no longer waits for the courier to arrive soon.

According to the director of Municipal Economic and Information Bureau, the city will promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional manufacturing industries in four aspects. First, we will fully promote the “246” industrial project and create new advantages for cluster development. Second, we will fully promote the digitalization of the industry and create, transform and upgrade new kinetic energy. Third, we will fully promote core technology breakthrough and create a new engine for innovation and development. Fourth, we will fully promote key reform pilots and create a new ecosystem of industrial development
