Belt hook exhibition held at China Port Museum

A special exhibition for ancient belt hooks kicked off at China Port Museum on April 21, where over 400 pieces of belt hooks are on display to show the exquisite life of the ancient people and the cultural elements in life. This is the first exhibition of its kind in China with the theme of belt hooks.

Belt hooks are the hooks used for holding the belts by aristocrats, scholars and warriors of ancient China, also known as "Xibi" (especially golden belt hooks). They first appeared during the Liangzhu Culture period about 4000 years ago, became popular during the Spring and Autumn Period, and were replaced by belt buckles after the Han and Jin Dynasties. Belt hooks are the symbols for aristocracy and dignity in ancient China, as well as manifestation of the Chinese culture.

In addition to some collections of the port museum, a large majority of the exhibition are from the Guangyi Cultural Agency. The exhibition, an important move in the cooperation with private resources by China Port Museum, is sure to play a positive role in protecting, researching, publicizing and inheriting the distinctive culture of the Chinese nation and exploring the civil resources. The exhibition, open to the citizens for free, will last until July 2.
